• 5.0 out of 5 stars from akash a saraf -- Enjoyable, insightful and playbook for everyone who is going for motorcycle ride to Ladakh : I thoroughly enjoyed the book so much that i could not put it down until i finished reading the entire book and i wish there was more. I have been to many of the places author and his friends visited during their trip but after reading the book i want to return to Ladakh and this time with bikes and good friends. Author's casual writing, wit and self-deprecating humor are the highlights. Reader gets really involved in story-telling and camaraderie of three amigos and enjoys the ride. Highly recommended. I gave up on finishing the book about 2/3 of the way through. There are lots of other motorcycle travel books that are more informative for travel in that region. A lot of really vulgar language that really made me wonder about these guys. If he wrote this book in hopes that people would want to do this trip all it did for me was make me afraid of being raped or murdered. I realize they didn’t say any of that actually happened but the definitely talked about it enough. this book definitely didn’t have anyone beta read it either so it was very irritating. Some of the Indian words, expressions and nick names were strange at first but I caught on quickly. Motorcycling has a universal language. I would love to ride with them sometime! Brady -- Perhaps not for a UK audience : I've given it two stars purely on the thinking that this may appeal to Indian male sensibilities, it didn't appeal to my more modern european thinking. Having spent some time in India riding motorbikes, Royal Enfields, the subject matter really caught my eye. Having spent some time there I also understand how different the cultures are and how male attitudes differ from our own here in the west, nevertheless I gave it a fair crack of the whip. After a while though the book became irritating despite my interest in the locations, particularly Ladakh that I love. Only try reading if you are able to deal with the foul language and misogynist attitudes in the book, sadly I will not be bothering with the follow up books. I've read some of Ketan's stuff before and you can really see that he's now found a style that works for him with this one. Don't read this if you're looking for serious introspective travelogue (thought there's a little bit of that too)...read it if you're looking for a fun breezy read and you don't mind some...ahem 'unparliamentary' language.
